Job summary

Catholic Charities St. Joseph's Family Center is an emergency family housing facility offering shelter to San Francisco families. The Residential Assistant role supports safety, intake, and daily operations within the family shelter environment.

The position requires at least two years of homeless-services experience, strong communication, and ability to respond to emergencies. On-site work, with a graveyard and swing-shift structure, in a residential shelter setting is described.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness.
• Basic knowledge of substance use disorders and mental health conditions.
• Ability to assess emergency situations and respond appropriately by accessing necessary medical, behavioral health, and social service resources.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and demonstrate strong organizational skills.
• Ability to develop systems and processes to track data and monitor outcomes.
• Knowledge of sanitation standards and Universal Precautions, including HIV/AIDS protocols.

Responsibilities

• Monitor safety of residents and enforce house rules.
• Provide front desk and telephone reception while maintaining confidentiality.
• Coordinate or arrange resident transportation as assigned.
• Assist with shelter readiness, meals, and snacks.
• Collaborate with case managers for service coordination.
• Document incidents, logs, and required records.
• Perform administrative duties and shift responsibilities.
• Respond to emergencies and notify appropriate staff.
