Job summary

Somerville School District is seeking a substitute school nurse to perform professional nursing duties in accordance with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and district policy. The role involves triaging students, providing care for chronic conditions, administering first aid and medications, maintaining health records, and coordinating with families and healthcare providers, all on-site as needed.

This intermittent position requires MA RN licensure and CPR certification and offers hourly

Qualifications

• Active/Current license as a registered nurse with the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Associate's degree in Nursing.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to work with people and communicate effectively with diverse populations.
• Those with bilingual/multilingual skills are encouraged to apply.
• Experience caring for students with special health care needs is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identifies medical needs and facilitates appropriate management for students in the school setting.
• Triages students to provide appropriate medical intervention and follow-up care.
• Monitors students referred for illness/injury and initiates follow-up care.
• Provides care to students with chronic illnesses for optimal functioning.
• Assesses safety and health-related issues and refers for proper treatment as needed.
• Performs nursing procedures and may be trained in insulin administration, catheterizations, suctioning, and nebulizer treatments.
• Administers first aid, medications and treatments per state laws and district policies.
• Documents all clinical visits and health record updates.
• Maintains confidential health records and reports as required by law.
• Assists in prevention and control of communicable diseases.
• Other nursing/health duties as assigned.
