Job summary

The substitute school nurse will perform professional nursing duties consistent with Massachusetts guidelines, regulations and statutes governing nursing, school health, and local district policy.

Responsibilities include triaging students, providing medical intervention, maintaining health records, and collaborating with families to support student health and safety. This intermittent, on-call role is within the Somerville Public Schools framework.

Qualifications

• Active RN license with Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
• BSN or ADN in Nursing.
• Current CPR certification.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

• Identify medical needs and manage student health in the school setting.
• Triage students and provide appropriate medical intervention and follow-up.
• Administer first aid and medications as per state laws and policies.
• Maintain confidential health records and ensure continuity of care.
• Assist in prevention and control of communicable diseases.
