Job summary

Sussex County Public Schools is seeking a compassionate Substitute School Nurse (RN or LPN) to deliver high-quality healthcare to students on an as-needed basis. You will cover for short and long-term absences and serve as the primary health contact on campus.

The ideal candidate remains calm under pressure, communicates effectively with parents and staff, and maintains accurate health records, medication administration, and safety protocols in line with district policies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Virginia License as RN or LPN (unencumbered).
• Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
• Prior pediatrics/school nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses.
• Administer medications per physician orders and district policy.
• Assist students with chronic conditions and specialized procedures as needed.
• Maintain confidential health records and logs of treatments.
• Notify parents/guardians of illness or injury; follow safety protocols.
• Evaluate students to determine if they should remain in school or be sent home.
