Job summary

Multnomah Education Service District (MESD) seeks a School Health Assistant on‑call for the 2026–2027 school year in Portland, Oregon. The role provides nursing care within school communities, following SHS procedures and maintaining confidentiality.

Responsibilities include medication administration, first aid, immunization management, and emergency care. Requires high school diploma, health field experience, First Aid/CPR/AED certification, and valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Experience working in the health or medical field preferred.
• At least 1 year experience working with groups of children in a professional or volunteer capacity.

Responsibilities

• Administer and document student medications following established SHS procedures.
• Perform first aid for students with acute and chronic health conditions.
• Assist school and MESD with immunization management.
• Provide emergency care, including CPR/AED as necessary.
• Complete daily electronic health record documentation following SHS procedures that is accurate and confidential.
• Communicate necessary information to the appropriate school nurse, SHS staff, school personnel, and parents/guardians while maintaining confidentiality.
• Utilize safety techniques to avoid exposure and injury to self, students, and other staff.
• Consistently communicate in a professional manner.
• Demonstrate ability to manage multiple and/or repetitive tasks.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Ability to work with accuracy and attention to detail.
