Job summary

Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. seeks substitute bus drivers to transport students to and from school and activities on an as-needed basis.

You will operate a school bus, follow routes, enforce safety rules, and assist students with boarding and exiting as required. Applicants must have a High School Diploma or GED, a CDL with P and S endorsements, a clean driving record, a current DOT medical card, and be able to pass FMCSA/DOT testing and background checks.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid CDL with P and S endorsements.
• Clean MVD driving record; insurability requirements.
• Current DOT physical examination and medical certification.
• Pass FMCSA/DOT drug and alcohol testing.
• Navajo/English bilingual preferred.
• Background check and fingerprinting as required.
• Complete NM PED bus driver training/certification prior to transporting.

Responsibilities

• Complies with SASI policies and procedures.
• Represents SASI professionally in the community.
• Maintains a high personal standard of conduct.
• Interacts with staff, students, parents, and visitors in a welcoming manner.
• Works as a team with transportation staff.
• Protects confidentiality of student and personnel information.
• Reports on time to receive route assignments and instructions.
• Conducts pre-trip and post-trip inspections; reports issues.
• Operates the assigned school bus safely and legally.
• Follows routes and schedules; notifies dispatch of delays.
• Maintains order and discipline among students; refers issues as needed.
• Assists students with safe boarding/exiting.
• Accounts for all students on routes.
• Responds to emergencies following procedures.
• Keeps bus interior clean; reports vandalism.
• Completes trip logs and incident reports.
• Participates in trainings and safety drills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
