Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking on-call Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) for the West Region to provide trauma-informed medical forensic care to sexual assault survivors. The role requires meeting on-call hours within 60 minutes of designated hospitals and follows NM policies and ethics.

Ideal candidates are experienced RNs with SANE training and Illinois licensure, ready to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with ongoing education and compliance with state regulations.

Qualifications

• BSN/ADN with commitment to obtain BSN within 3 years or MSN with IL APRN license.
• Current IL RN license in good standing.
• BLS certification on hire.
• Completion of IL SANE Clinical Training within 1 year of hire (IAFN 40-hour didactic + IL SANE log).

Responsibilities

• Provide trauma-informed medical forensic care as a SANE for sexual assault survivors.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and ensure timely documentation.
• Maintain compliance with SASETA, IL Nurse Practice Act, and organizational policies.
• Maintain privacy and chain of custody for evidence; testify in court when required.
• Keep up-to-date with regulatory guidelines and ongoing professional development.
• Educate survivors and families to support recovery and understanding of care.
• Participate in quality improvement and regional program development.

Education
