Job summary
Hospice of the Midwest is seeking an On-Call Registered Nurse to join our team in Johnston, IA. The role involves after-hours, hands-on hospice care, collaborating with the care team to support patients and families in a compassionate manner.
The RN must hold an active nursing license in the state and have at least one year of nursing experience, with hospice exposure preferred. A valid driver's license is required, and the role offers stability, advancement opportunities, and comprehensive
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school with current state licensure.
- One year nursing experience required, 3+ years preferred.
- Experience in hospice or a similar setting is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 care to hospice patients during on-call hours.
- Assess and manage urgent symptoms quickly and compassionately.
- Administer medications or adjust care per hospice protocols or orders.
- Communicate with physicians regarding changes in condition and obtain orders as necessary.
- Offer guidance to patients and families about current conditions and next steps.
- Pronounce death when applicable during on-call hours and assist the family with next steps.
