Job summary

The Operating Room Technician (ORT) is a key member of the surgical team responsible for scrubbing, preparing instruments, supplies and equipment before, during, and after procedures. This role may circulate under RN supervision and participate in on-call scheduling.

It also includes mentoring new ORTs and supporting department education across campus. Candidates must meet NYS surgical technology certification or LPN license, maintain asepsis, and demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Graduate of surgical technology program with certification or NY LPN license.
• Meets pre-employment screening and physical requirements.
• BLS certification required or obtained within six months of hire.
• Proof of 15 hours of continuing education yearly.

Responsibilities

• Scrub person responsible for instruments, supplies and equipment before, during and after procedures.
• Assist surgeons and circulate under RN supervision as needed.
• Mentor new ORTs and participate in education for the OR team.
• Work across campus with assignment to Main Campus OR Services and ASC Endo as needed.
• Maintain asepsis and effective communication with the team.
