Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent; Health Care Interpreter Training Certificate.
• Preferred National Certification for Healthcare Interpreters (for available languages).
• Experience in interpretation and translation in a healthcare setting preferred.
• Proficiency in oral and written in both target and source languages; extensive knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Interprets for patients with limited English proficiency in interactions with care providers and hospital staff.
• Translates complex medical information and provides sight translations of documents.
• Assists patients in scheduling appointments and resolving billing problems.
• Provides on-call interpreter services during evenings and weekends on a rotation. Trains staff on interpreter usage and cross-cultural communication.
• Maintains daily activity records and participates in quality improvement activities.
