Job summary

EightCAP, Inc. is seeking a Classroom Substitute to support Head Start and Early Head Start classrooms in Isabella, Montcalm, Ionia, and Gratiot counties. This on-call, hourly role ensures continuity of care when regular teachers are unavailable and helps maintain a safe, nurturing environment for young children.

You will follow program policies, prepare meals, monitor activities, and collaborate with families and staff while adhering to mandated reporting requirements and licensing standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Ability to communicate effectively and positively and work collaboratively with staff, families, agency representatives, service providers, and community organizations in a respectful, professional, and non-judgmental manner.
• Understanding of mandated reporting requirements, including the ability to recognize, document, and report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with state law and program procedures.
• Must successfully complete all required state and federal background clearances.

Responsibilities

• Monitor a safe, healthy, organized environment for children daily.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Model appropriate behavior and support children's needs.
• Prepare meals and snacks per menus; keep kitchen and storage areas clean.
• Follow Head Start, LARA, and CACFP regulations.
• Maintain records and report suspected abuse or neglect.
• Communicate positively with children, families, staff, and partners.
• Participate in professional development and training.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
