Job summary

The State of Washington, Washington Soldiers Home, seeks an On-Call Grounds and Nursery Services Specialist 3 to perform advanced gardening and landscaping tasks across the grounds, nurseries, and greenhouse areas. This role supports maintenance and beautification, with on-call shifts requiring minimum availability of three shifts per week across two shifts.

On-Call positions are intermittent and not eligible for telework.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years' experience gardening or in grounds maintenance.
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• A combination of education and experience may be considered on a year-for-year basis. Experience must be relevant to the position.
• Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English to facilitate effective performance of job duties.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain outdoor beds, planting areas, soil amendments, and displays.
• Implement planting floral displays as designed.
• Maintain floral displays and monitor for disease and pests using appropriate controls.
• Cultivate, water, fertilize, prune, and mulch plants.
• Remove annual displays after frost and clean beds; mulch perennials.
• Prepare beds for spring bulbs and plantings.
• Maintain turf and hedges, including mowing, fertilizing, irrigation, and pest management.
• Operate lawn equipment and manage debris; irrigation and disease/insect monitoring as needed.
