Job summary

The City of Indianapolis is seeking a versatile field technician within the DPW who responds to service requests and emergency repairs. The role involves labor-intensive tasks, operating heavy equipment, and following safety standards in outdoor conditions.

You will document work orders, assess needs, and coordinate with crews. Strong reading comprehension, maps, and ability to lift 50 pounds are essential. CDL is preferred; residency in Marion County within 6 months is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 4+ years in construction/maintenance.
• Two years of experience in heavy equipment operation.
• Class A CDL preferred; Class B required; pre-employment driving physical.
• Knowledge of City of Indianapolis street/storm water standards.
• Familiarity with IOSHA and MOT regulations.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 150 feet.
• Must be Marion County resident within six months.

Responsibilities

• Performs quick-fix, labor intensive tasks including storm water facility work.
• Process service requests and work orders with standardized terminology.
• Determine responsibility of incoming requests and take appropriate actions.
• Maintain accurate time/materials records for repairs.
• Maintain tools and equipment supplied by the City.
• Follow safety regulations and SOPs on site.
• Assess needs and determine supplies and equipment needed for repairs.
• Operate hand/power tools and maintenance equipment.
• Provide assistance to workers in other classifications.
• Work overtime as assigned.
• Note: duties may be expanded as necessary.
