Job summary

WSP USA is seeking an On-Call Solid Waste (landfill) and CCR CQA Engineering Technician in Michigan to support field observation, testing, and documentation for earthen and geosynthetic containment systems. Home locations include Holland, Lansing, Bay City, or Novi, with extensive travel.

The role involves field density testing, geosynthetics monitoring, and coordination with contractors and project managers to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of related experience.
• GCI-ICP certification or ability to obtain it.
• MDOT Construction Materials Testing - Soils certification or ability to obtain it.
• MDOT Construction Materials Testing - Concrete or ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician-Grade I certification or ability to obtain it.
• This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy.
• Ability to travel and work outdoors to meet project needs.

Responsibilities

• Field monitoring, testing, and sampling of soil and aggregate materials.
• Use of a nuclear gauge and drive cylinder for soil density testing.
• Geosynthetics monitoring and testing.
• General construction observation and documentation.
• Interpreting drawings, specs, and CQA plans to confirm work meets approved plans.
• Interact with contractors and owners to resolve construction issues.
• Generate complete, accurate documentation using electronic systems and field notebooks.
• Assist with field characterization, stormwater and groundwater sampling as needed.
• Participate in daily safety meetings and maintain safety standards.
• Travel and work outdoors up to 12 hours per day and up to 90% travel.
