Job summary

Central Jersey College Prep Charter School (CJCP) is seeking an on-call Bus Driver to operate a school bus and transport students and staff safely to designated locations in Somerset, NJ. You will follow routes, assist students boarding and disembarking, and ensure vehicle safety through pre-trip inspections.

Ideal candidates have at least three years of safe driving, a valid CDL with P&S endorsements, and the ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, and administrators.

Qualifications

• Must have NJ Criminal History clearance.
• Work authorization in the U.S. and a valid CDL with P and S endorsements.
• Must provide Driver Abstract Report.
• Minimum of three years' safe driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate a school bus and safely transport students and staff to designated locations.
• Follow routes and schedules, maintain vehicle cleanliness, assist students with boarding and disembarking.
• Adhere to traffic laws and safety regulations while providing excellent customer service.
• Perform daily pre-trip inspections and report any issues promptly.
• Monitor student behavior and address disruptions calmly and professionally.
• Communicate with school staff, parents, and administrators regarding student needs.
• Attend trainings and maintain required certifications/licenses.
• Comply with all policies and professional ethics in performance of duties.

On-Call Bus Driver

Responsibilities Include:

• Operating a school bus and safely transporting students and staff to and from designated locations.
• Following assigned routes and schedules, maintaining a clean and operational vehicle, assisting students with boarding and disembarking.
• Adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations while providing excellent customer service to students, parents, and staff.
• Performing daily pre-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in good working condition and report any mechanical issues or accidents promptly
• Monitoring student behavior on the bus and address any disruptive actions in a calm, professional manner
• Communicating effectively with school staff, parents, and administrators regarding student needs or concerns
• Attend any required trainings and maintain necessary certifications/licenses
• Communicates responsibly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and school leadership;
• Accounts for student attendance
• Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures;
• Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities;

Additional Responsibilities:

• Avoids behaviors which detract from staff morale;
• Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Proven communication and instructional strategies;

• School Bus Driving: 1 year (Required)
• Commercial Driving: 1 year (Required)
• Valid CDL license with P and S endorsements
• High school or equivalent (Preferred)
• Must provide Driver Abstract Report issued by Department of Motor Vehicles
• Compliance with DOT physical examination and Drug and Alcohol Testing Requirements
• Current Medical Card
• Minimum of three (3) years' previous safe driving experience.
