Job summary

Harborstone Apartments in Newport News is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform routine maintenance and repairs for residential units and common areas. You will support preventative maintenance programs, respond to service requests, and help ensure life-safety compliance.

The role requires basic repairs knowledge (plumbing, electrical, carpentry), ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and a valid driver's license. On-call shifts and after-hours responsiveness may be required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3 years of maintenance or facilities experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general repairs.
• Trade School Certification a plus.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently.
• Willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders, access mechanical spaces, and work in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to respond to after-hours emergencies as required.

Responsibilities

• Complete routine maintenance and repair work orders in a timely and professional manner.
• Perform repairs involving plumbing, electrical, carpentry, appliances, and building systems.
• Assist with unit turns, including inspections, repairs, and readiness for occupancy.
• Respond to emergency maintenance issues and participate in on-call rotations as required.
• Assist with scheduled preventative maintenance inspections and services.
• Identify and report maintenance issues, safety concerns, and potential system failures.
• Document completed work and inspection findings in the maintenance management system.
• Work collaboratively with other maintenance team members and property staff.
