Job summary

Southwest Shipyard, LP, located in Channelview, TX, is seeking a Deckhand to assist in waterfront operations and perform general deck duties under the Boat Captain. Responsibilities include engine checks, housekeeping, securing lines, and maintaining vessel appearance.

The role requires at least 1 year of boat/shipyard experience, fluent English, and TWIC eligibility. Standard schedule is 14 days on the boat and 7 days off, with semimonthly payroll. Competitive salary and full benefits offered.

Qualifications

• Requires good communication skills and the ability to follow directions.
• Must be proficient in English.
• Must have or be eligible for a TWIC card.
• Working knowledge of shipyard operations, welding, carpentry and concrete operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the maintenance of the yard boats.
• Assist the Boat Captain in all shifting of barges.
• Maintain boat apparatus: winches, cables, ropes.
• Load and unload materials from vessels/barges and docks/trucks.
• Clean the deck and maintain equipment exposed to outside elements.
• Keep deck clear of hazards and ensure proper appearance of vessel.
• Follow all company regulations and safety rules.
