Job summary

NAB Leadership Foundation in Saint Paul, MN seeks an experienced Radio Board Operator to run the board during live and recorded broadcasts, manage sound levels, and ensure technical perfection. The role requires strong crisis handling, clear communication, and the ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

The candidate will operate broadcast equipment, monitor automation and transmitter controls, and produce or edit audio as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED or equivalent required; 1 year experience running a radio board preferred.
• Ability to respond quickly in crises and handle last-minute changes.
• Clear verbal and written communication with co-workers and others.
• Ability to hear, speak clearly, and follow oral and written directions.
• Ability to think clearly under pressure and adapt on air.
• Familiarity with automation systems and broadcasting operations.
• Knowledge of transmission, switching, control, and telecommunications systems.
• Professional appearance and demeanor; compliant with FCC policies.
• Multitask while running the board and remain flexible with schedules.
• Ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends on short notice.

Responsibilities

• Run the board and manage live or recorded news and brokered radio programs, including music, features, billboards, and commercials.
• Operate and troubleshoot switcher and other radio equipment used in production.
• Ensure technical perfection and sound quality of broadcasts.
• Monitor monitors, outgoing audio levels, and follow the program log.
• Observe and adjust weather forecasts as needed and report emergencies on air when required.
• Record, edit, or playback sound and voice news stories/features as requested.
• Answer phone calls and screen calls during shifts.
• Monitor automation and transmitter controls, including pattern/tower changes and readings.
• Assess emergencies and decide when to call for additional support.
• Comply with FCC rules and report to work on time according to schedule.
