Job summary

The White Earth Head Start program seeks an assistant who will support the Lead Teacher in educating preschoolers while incorporating Ojibwemowin in at least half of activities to promote growth across development areas. The role also includes bus driving duties for safe transport of children and families.

Responsibilities include supporting lesson delivery, maintaining learning plans, preparing materials, and acting as Lead Teacher when needed, under regulatory guidelines and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with CDA or enrollment in related degree program.
• Ojibwe language through Ojibwe 2 or equivalent, with willingness to pursue more courses.
• Valid CDL with school bus endorsement or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.
• Able to pass criminal background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Lead Teacher with teaching lessons and activities to meet the needs of children in the classroom and on educational field trips.
• Help maintain the individual learning plans in accordance with department service plans and federal regulations.
• Help prepare lessons and materials and teach to class according to department guidelines and within appropriate development limits.
• Fill in as the Lead Teacher in their absence.
• Drive the Head Start bus in accordance with all applicable laws to transport Head Start children and families safely.
• Prepare and inspect the bus prior to each trip.
• Comply with reporting standard regarding child abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter for the safety of children.
