Job summary

HFM Recruiting, LLC is seeking an experienced Controller to manage accurate financial reporting for a small family office with oil and gas assets, including non-operated properties and royalty interests, in the Fort Worth area.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive oil and gas accounting expertise, strong technical skills, and the ability to oversee day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities.

Qualifications

• Eight or more years of accounting experience in the oil and gas industry.
• Experience with non-operated working interests, mineral interests, and royalty assets.
• Strong understanding of Joint Interest Billing (JIB) and oil and gas revenue accounting.
• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and reconcile monthly working interest and royalty revenue received from operators and purchasers.
• Review revenue statements and owner reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Investigate and resolve revenue discrepancies.
• Prepare and review Joint Interest Billing (JIB) statements for non-operated properties.
• Analyze and reconcile monthly JIB activity.
• Process and review vendor payables to ensure timely payment and compliance with company policies.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
• Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
• Prepare and post monthly journal entries.
• Perform account reconciliations and maintain supporting schedules.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts and investigate variances.
• Coordinate with external tax professionals to support quarterly and annual tax preparation.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and operational efficiency.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
