Job summary

Centerline Logistics is seeking a qualified deckhand to support the safe transfer of petroleum products between barges and ships, and to assist with gauge reports and bills of lading. Responsibilities include deck maintenance, line handling, and routine towing operations under Captain or Mate guidance.

The ideal candidate has a valid Coast Guard Merchant Marin ers Document with AB endorsement, at least two years of deckhand experience, and the ability to work in demanding environments with

Qualifications

  • Valid Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Document with AB endorsement.
  • Two (2) years or greater experience as deckhand.
  • Ability to think and respond quickly to emergency situations (oil spills, mechanical failures, etc.).
  • Self-motivated and professional in customer relations.
  • Must have physical ability to maneuver cargo hoses, handle barge lines and board vessels using ladder systems.
  • Good communication via voice and visual signals.
  • Ability to complete paperwork and basic math.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and English literacy.
  • Must obtain HAZWOPER training within 30 days of hire.
  • Must hold TWIC and valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Deck must be cleaned and free of lines. Make up tows as directed by Captain or Mate.
  • Work aboard boats and barges using tools and equipment.
  • Perform lubrication and routine maintenance on deck equipment.
  • Tie off barge tows and handle lines
  • Give proper signals and information during operations.
  • Steer tug and fuel tug as directed.
  • Load supplies and maintain cleanliness of tugs and barges.
  • Carry out essential duties with minimal supervision.
