Job summary

Tarrant County’s Juvenile Services is seeking an Intake Liaison Officer (Driver) to assist with daily operations, transport juveniles to pre-adjudication facilities, court hearings, and medical appointments, and manage fleet maintenance across county locations.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 2 years working with children/families, a valid Texas driver’s license, and the ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Strong communication and document handling skills required.

Job description

Summary

The Intake Liaison Officer (Driver) will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of the Juvenile Services department including providing support services to Intake Services through in-custody and out-of-custody transportation of juveniles to and from pre-adjudication placement facilities, court hearings, hospitals, medical or mental health appointments and detention facilities. Manage department's vehicle fleet including oversight of the required maintenance, and inspection and communication with Central Garage. Assist administration with the delivery of documents including summons, intra-County mail and obtaining needed signatures.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Transports multi-risk in-custody juveniles to various state facilities for confinement purposes and transports court ordered juveniles to various pre-adjudication placement facilities. Applies mechanical restraints during secure transport to the state facilities and to and from some of the placement facilities.
  • Transports juveniles to other county detention centers to and/or return juveniles to this department’s detention center. Travels to state mental health facilities for client's admission for treatment purposes.
  • Transports detained youth to offsite medical and mental health appointments, evaluations and interviews.
  • Transports juveniles’ home from detention when their family has no transportation.
  • Transports juveniles and parents to and from court hearings. Assists with transportation needs for visitors, probation officers, administration and judges.
  • Responsible for scheduling maintenance and inspection with Central Garage, and record keeping of the department's vehicle fleet assigned to the main campus and field offices across Tarrant County.
  • Manages pre-adjudication placement information to include addresses, phone numbers, directions to placement facilities, and other county detention centers.
  • Delivers and picks up intra-office mail and confidential files from other Tarrant County buildings. Delivers and picks up supplies from county agencies and from private vendors.
  • Accepts responsibility for a County Purchasing Card including the required paperwork and making appropriate purchases in the event of emergencies.
  • Serves summons to juveniles and/or guardian(s) in the detention center, at their homes, schools, county jail and other locations as needed.
  • Returns original court documents to the District Clerk’s office and documents official service in the Juvenile Case Management System.
  • Provides back-up support for the Intake Services Secretary.
  • Obtains required signatures from judges or vendors on time sensitive items such as contracts and grant applications.
  • Posts juvenile board meeting notices and distributes minutes.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload.
  • Must be able to work independently without close supervision as well as work collectively in a team environment.
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Must be able to diffuse tense situations that can occur during a transport.
  • Ability to remain calm and react appropriately while driving.
  • Ability to utilize maps, including GPS, and follow directions to various locations.
  • Must be able to communicate and work well with people of all ages.
  • Must have the ability to be certified in First Aid, CPR, and Handle with Care.
  • Must have basic administrative skills for entering information in the department case management system and spreadsheets.
  • Must have the ability to obtain TJJD certification as a Community Activities Officer (CAO) in order to apply mechanical restraints and transport juveniles without a certified probation officer.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two (2) years working with children/families.
  • Must have a good driving record, a valid Texas Driver’s License and automobile liability insurance.
Physical Demands And Work Environment & Other Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
