The Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife is seeking an Office Specialist I in Augusta to support licensing, registrations and program administration. The role involves customer interactions in person, by phone, and online, and requires accurate recordkeeping and basic office tasks.
The successful candidate will learn state laws related to licensing and permits and work as part of a small team across moose permit programs, lotteries, auctions and lodge permits.

Salary: $18.76 - $27.03 Per Hour
This position is office and administrative support work. The successful applicant will be a collaborative member of a small team of people whose primary responsibility is performing complex varied office support tasks working directly with agents in person, on the phone, through the internet and by mail providing oral and written information explaining various licensing and registration requirements in accordance with office standards. The selected candidate will be required to learn and know State of Maine laws that pertain to licensing, permits, and registrations.
Manage Program Administration: Lead the administrative operations for the Maine Moose Permit Program, including the moose permit lottery, moose permit auction, and lodge permits.
Deliver Customer Support: Provide clear oral and written information regarding various licensing, permits, and registration requirements to the public.
Process Financial Transactions: Post payments, handle account adjustments, and perform basic account reconciliation.
Maintain Accurate Records: Utilize various computer applications to input data, track permits, and update permit files.
Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and 2) the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, Office Associate I and Office Associate II.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience in working with the public over the phone and with basic accounting skills such as posting payments, making account adjustments and account reconciliation.
