Responsibilities

  • Lead administrative operations of the New York office and mentor staff.
  • Oversee staffing, recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate staff coverage and support biweekly payroll administration.
  • Ensure compliance with firm policies and employment laws.
  • Support employee relations, benefits enrollment, and performance management.
  • Assist with recruiting for attorneys and summer associates.
  • Oversee facilities, building management, security access, and office improvements.
  • Maintain business continuity and emergency-preparedness plans.
  • Plan office events and initiatives to strengthen culture and engagement.
  • Partner with firm leadership and other office teams.
  • Take ownership of new operational needs as they arise.

A highly regarded midsize national law firm is seeking an experienced Office Manager to oversee the day-to-day administration of its New York City office. The office is home to approximately 60 professionals, including roughly 40 attorneys.

The Role

The Office Manager will lead the administrative operations of the New York office and serve as a trusted resource to attorneys, professional staff, and firm leadership. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing, mentoring, and developing the office’s administrative staff
  • Overseeing staffing needs, recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations
  • Coordinating staff coverage and supporting biweekly payroll administration
  • Ensuring compliance with firm policies and applicable federal, state, and local employment laws
  • Supporting employee relations, benefits enrollment, and performance-management matters
  • Assisting with attorney and summer associate recruiting
  • Overseeing facilities, building management, security access, and office improvement projects
  • Maintaining the office’s business continuity and emergency-preparedness plans
  • Planning office events and initiatives that strengthen culture and employee engagement
  • Partnering closely with firm leadership and administrative teams across other offices
  • Taking ownership of new operational needs as they arise
Qualifications

The successful candidate will bring:

  • At least five years of law firm management or comparable professional-services experience
  • Meaningful experience supervising and developing administrative teams
  • Strong knowledge of human resources, office administration, facilities, and basic financial processes
  • Excellent judgment, discretion, and problem-solving skills
  • A polished, collaborative, and service-oriented approach
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a sophisticated, fast-paced environment
  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, human resources, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience

Prior experience with common legal-industry document management, expense, payroll, accounting, and Microsoft Office platforms is helpful.

Compensation and Schedule
  • Base salary: $165,000 to $200,000
  • Bonus: Historically ranging from approximately $15,000 to $65,000+
  • Hybrid schedule: Four days in the office and one day remote
