Job description

Met Council is America’s largest Jewish charity dedicated to serving the needy. We fight poverty through comprehensive social services and by treating each client with compassion, integrity, and respect. Our programs are staffed by experts who help over 325,000 clients each year and advocate on behalf of all needy New Yorkers. Our services include 100% affordable housing at 21 locations, family violence services, Holocaust survivor assistance, geriatric social work, crisis intervention and the largest free kosher food distribution program in the world. Our network of 101 food pantries, affordable housing sites, and affiliated JCCs provide services directly in neighborhoods across New York City.

Position Summary:

The Office Experience Lead owns the entire coming-into-the-office experience and is the first face and voice of Met Council. This is fundamentally a hospitality and culture role: the Lead sets the tone of the office, makes every visitor and employee feel genuinely welcomed from the moment they arrive, and builds internal culture and morale through regular events and traditions. The schedule is Monday–Thursday, 8:00 AM–6:00 PM, so the office has a consistent, dependable presence at the front desk. The Lead also owns the front desk—including phones, visitors, and supplies—so that the office runs smoothly.

  • Own the first impression: greet every visitor and caller with warmth and confidence, ensuring each person’s impression of Met Council is a positive one.
  • Own the arrival experience end to end: confirm appointments in advance, send guests entry and ID instructions, and pre-register visitors with building security so no one is left waiting in the lobby.
  • Plan and run staff touchpoints and office traditions that build culture and morale across the office.
  • Support new-hire first days: partner with HR and IT so that badge and building access, workspace setup, and a warm welcome and tour are ready on Day 1.
  • Manage phones and visitor flow: answer and direct calls, welcome and announce visitors. Handle mail, packages, and deliveries.
  • Keep the office well‑stocked with supplies and snacks and ensure that common areas are always clean, welcoming, and comfortable.
  • Serve as the front‑desk point of contact with building management: flag and elevate anything that affects the arrival or office experience (elevators, lobby cleanliness, temperature, lighting) and follow up until resolved.
  • Maintain office security by following established procedures and entering visitor information into the building security list; serve as the front‑desk contact and maintain the visitor log during drills and building incidents.
  • Respond to employee service requests: triage, route to HR, IT, or Facilities, and follow up to resolution.
  • Manage the front‑desk email inboxes.
  • Manage conference room scheduling, clerical support, and event setup, partnering with HR on trainings and staff mixers.
  • Additional responsibilities as required.
  • Genuinely warm and outgoing, someone who enjoys hosting and connecting with people
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and adapt in a fast‑paced environment
  • Attention to detail and follow‑through in daily office tasks
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Dependability and follow‑through on tasks and requests
Skill and Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Previous experience in reception, office administration, or facilities support (preferred)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)
  • Comfort managing email inboxes and scheduling systems
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written); bi‑lingual ability a plus
Physical Demands:
  • Required Constantly: Walking, standing, sitting.
  • Required Occasionally: Reaching above the shoulder and lifting 5‑25 pounds (boxes of supplies or mail), pushing and pulling.
