Job summary

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is seeking an Office Assistant to support our medical oncology practice in Monroeville, PA. This full-time position focuses on patient intake, scheduling, and information verification in a patient-centered, collaborative environment.

The ideal candidate has experience in an outpatient medical office, can handle high call volumes, and is comfortable with electronic medical records and medical terminology.

Qualifications

  • Experience in an outpatient medical office preferred.
  • Comfortable with high call volumes.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical records and medical terminology.
  • Strong interpersonal and administrative skills.

Responsibilities

  • Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and reschedule patient appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers.
  • Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of patient’s arrival, performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials.
  • Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
  • Answer telephone, screen calls, take messages, and provide information.
  • Maintain and update current information on physician schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed.
  • Complete necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing.
  • Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing.
  • Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures. Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
  • Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/reconciliation, and other tasks.
