Job summary

Brevard County Ocean Rescue is seeking a part-time lifeguard to guard Beachside/Countywide beaches and provide information on beach and ocean conditions. The position is part-time and temporary with a variable schedule including weekends and holidays.

Candidates must have 240 hours of documented hands-on ocean lifeguard experience and be able to complete the USLA Advanced Guidelines performance test annually, along with BLS/CPR and Emergency Medical Responder certifications.

Qualifications

  • Must complete Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Performance Test annually per USLA Advanced Guidelines.
  • Must complete Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy 16-Hour Refresher Course.
  • Must possess or obtain BLS/CPR certification and Emergency Medical Responder certification.

THIS POSITION IS APPOINTIVE SERVICE/TEMPORARY

$21.29 to $21.84 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Beachside/Countywide. Part-time/Temporary. Work schedule is variable and includes weekends and holidays. Performs experienced protective service work guarding the safety of patrons at assigned ocean beaches and provides information pertaining to beach and ocean conditions.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Two hundred and forty (240) hours of documented hands‑on experience working as an ocean lifeguard.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Performance Test annually, which includes swimming 500 meters in an ocean environment and a physical agility test, in accordance with the United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) Advanced Guidelines.
  • Must be able to successfully complete the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy 16-Hour Refresher Course.
  • Must possess, or obtain by the completion of the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy, a Basic Life Support (BLS)/ Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification from an approved agency and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment.
  • Must possess, or obtain by the completion of the Brevard County Ocean Lifeguard Training Academy, anEmergency Medical Responder certification from an approved agency and maintain said certification in an active status during the term of employment.
  • In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man‑made disaster thatmay threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
