Job description

Title: Ocean Freight Compliance Manager

Location:Anywhere in the US

DHL is hiring an Ocean Freight Compliance Manager to join our team near one of our US offices. You will support the US ocean freight team to ensure compliance with all regulations applicable to the transport of ocean freight, including those related to the Federal Maritime Commission (FMC). You will be the lead point of contact for all ocean freight compliance matters relating to DHL Global Forwarding and your role will include, without limitation, establishing written policies/procedures, conducting periodic audits to ensure policies/procedures are adhered to, providing sufficient training to employees, and addressing any compliance issues that are raised/discovered. Through your role you will establish DHL as a thought leader in ocean freight compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Devising and managing scalable processes and procedures to navigate commonly encountered compliance issues.
  • Support and guide the global ocean freight organization on compliance enforcement.
  • Establish processes and policies supporting a global station network to remain compliant with applicable regulations.
  • Evaluate and implement compliance software solutions.
  • Provide content and guidance as part of quarterly business reviews, webinars and sales engagements.
  • Working with department colleagues to establish best in class compliance processes and procedures.
  • Monitoring of relevant developments and changes to regulations and requirements.
  • Updating standard policies, processes and procedures as needed to reflect changes in regulations or requirements.
  • Updating standard templates as needed
  • Establishing and managing an internal auditing program to review transactions for FMC compliance.
  • Regularly reporting to the business on the status of FMC compliance.
  • Using audit results to provide targeted corrective action measures.
  • Establishing and maintaining an internal NRA/NSA, record keeping system.
  • Assisting with various compliance projects and initiatives.
  • Collaborating frequently with business partners, local management, global DHL project teams and legal colleagues from across the various DHL business units.
  • Providing rapid, practical, business-oriented advice to applicable stakeholders.
  • Proactively working to resolve potential compliance matters from investigation through resolution, where appropriate.
  • Understanding DHL’s business operations, it’s goals and strategies.
  • Ensuring that business objectives are met while compliance is maintained.

Skills and Requirements:

  • 10 years’ experience with strong analytical skills
  • Undergraduate university degree from an accredited school
  • Project management skills preferred
  • Experience establishing anational/globalcompliance program
  • Expertise in FMC regulations, rules and requirements.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to foster trust and confidence in colleagues at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to research, analyze and problem solve
  • Ability to travel as required (estimated less than 25% of the time)
Salary Range: $150,637 - $200,850.00+ (Based on Experience)
