Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding in Chicago is seeking an Ocean Export Supervisor to drive end-to-end Ocean Export processes and oversee a team of ocean freight specialists. You will lead KPI-driven performance, manage customer shipments, and partner with Operations and Customer Service to ensure profitability and compliance.

The ideal candidate has 4+ years in freight forwarding with Ocean Export exposure and at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of Freight Forwarding experience; Ocean Export preferred.
• 1+ years of supervisory/leadership experience.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Direct and manage end-to-end Ocean Export processes.
• Serve as escalation contact for Ocean Export shipments; manage finances and KPIs.
• Ensure safety and regulatory compliance; promote good working practices.
• Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless service and support sales.
• Review month-end reports, P/L, and accounts payables/receivables; escalate carrier issues as needed.

Job Title: Ocean Export Supervisor

You have an exciting opportunity for an Ocean Export Supervisor who will be responsible for the end to end performance and profitability of the local Ocean Export product team which includes Operations and Customer Service. This role drives performance of the ocean freight specialists team while ensuring quality and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages, oversees, and performs supervisory tasks to direct and control activities performed to effectively manage the end to end Ocean Export processes


• Serves as the escalation contact for customer’s Ocean Export shipments; responsible for the financial aspects and results; sets, communicates, and drives KPIs to ensure customer satisfaction


• Assumes responsibility for good working practices, safety, and security for customer shipments and staff


• Collaborate with internal customers (Ocean Gateway, Trucking, and, Handling etc.) for seamless customer service and improve process flows; engage with sales to grow business by participating in sales meetings and customer calls


• Review and manage month end reports, review P/L, open Accounts Payables Accounts Receivables; escalates carrier performance issues when required with the US Ocean Freight Product team

Skills / Requirements

• 4+ years of experience with Freight Forwarding experience required, strong preference for Ocean Export experience


• 1+ years of supervisory / leadership experience strongly preferred


• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience/qualification


• Basic knowledge of Cargo Wise system is preferred


• Demonstrated leadership ability to include driving KPIs, employee engagement / team building. Strong ability to develop, coach, train, and mentor staff to success


• Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, and presentations)


• Strong computer skills: Microsoft (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook)

Pay Range: $68,722.50 - $91,630.00+ (Based on Experience)
