Job description

Your role as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant involves implementing occupational therapy programs, providing patient care for developmentally, physically, and/or mentally disabled patients, and promoting functional abilities.

General Duties

• Provide occupational therapy treatment to a wide range of diagnostic and age groups in accordance with departmental protocols.
• Adhere to precautions related to diagnoses or conditions.
• Conduct treatment sessions using appropriate behavioral management and structure.
• Utilize various treatment alternatives to achieve goals and modify programs as patient skill level changes.
• Initiate discharge planning during admission, addressing patient/family training, equipment needs, and follow‑up considerations.
• Teach patients and family members occupational therapy skills and techniques for use during hospitalization and at home.
• Fabricate splints and adaptive equipment, including training, as medically directed.
• Prepare written reports and departmental documents in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Complete daily documentation of treatments, procedures, and patient information.

Licenses & Certifications

• Basic Life Support – Health Care Provider (American Heart Association)
• Current license to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
