Job Summary

The Occupational Therapy Assistant Certified implements occupational therapy programs, providing treatment, patient care, and support across the professional, technical, and administrative operations of the Occupational Therapy department. The role includes patient care for developmentally, physically, and/or mentally disabled individuals to promote learning and restoration of functional abilities.

Responsibilities

• Provides occupational therapy treatment to a wide range of diagnostic and age groups, complying with departmental protocols and procedures.
• Adheres to precautions related to diagnoses or conditions.
• Conducts treatment sessions, applying appropriate behavioral management, structuring the environment, utilizing various therapeutic alternatives for goal achievement, and modifying treatment plans in response to changes in patient skill level and/or environment.
• Initiates discharge planning during admission, considering patient/family training, equipment needs, and follow‑up issues.
• Teaches patients and family members therapeutic skills and techniques to facilitate functional abilities during hospitalization and in the home environment.
• Fabricates splints and adaptive equipment, including training, as medically directed based on patient disability and rehabilitative needs.
• Prepares written reports and departmental documents in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Completes daily documentation of treatments, procedures, and patient information.

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support Health Care Provider, American Heart Association
• Current license to practice as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners
