Job summary

Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation Nursing, a 160-bed skilled nursing facility in Beacon, NY, seeks dedicated Occupational Therapists (FT/PT) to develop, recover or maintain daily living and work skills for elderly residents. The OT will provide client-centered services, adapt therapies to patient needs, and foster independence in ADL/IADL tasks.

Qualifications

• Licensed OT with BS in Occupational Therapy or higher.
• Minimum 2 years of OT experience.
• Familiar with ADL/IADL assessment tools (e.g., Katz, Lawton).
• Able to adapt therapy to individual patient needs and environments.
• Strong communication and professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

• Address performance areas to support engagement in occupations affecting health and well-being.
• Select and adapt OT treatment models per case.
• Apply interventions to maximize safety and ADLs/IADLs.
• Educate clients on task approaches and break tasks into steps.
• Assess home and other environments for safe adaptations.
• Recommend and train in adaptive equipment use.
• Guide and educate family members and caregivers.
• Document progress toward short- and long-term goals.
• Collect data and follow-up on client progress.

Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation Nursing, a 160-bed Skilled Nursing Facility in Beacon, NY, is looking for committed and patient-focused Full Time or Part-time Occupational Therapists to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of elderly with physical, mental or developmental conditions. The successful candidate will offer effective and client-centered services that will enable people to confidently and independently carry out everyday tasks or activities. The successful candidate will have a “hands on” perspective be able to adapt the environment and therapies to fit the needs of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Address client’s aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being and life quality
• Select and adapt the appropriate per case occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to direct the process of interventions
• Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
• Teach clients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
• Assess client’s home and other environments and advice on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
• Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use
• Guide and educate family members and caregivers
• Observe, note, and report on progress of long and short term treatment goals
• Collect data and document processes followed
• Regularly follow-up client

Skills

• 2 Years working experience as occupational therapist
• Hands-on experience with computer programs and creative media
• Familiarity with ADLs evaluation tools ( e.g. Katz ADL scale, Lawton IADL scale)
• Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities
• Current knowledge of treatment practices per discipline and drive to continually learn and grow in the profession
• Professional behavior
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Valid license to practice occupational therapy
• BS degree or greater in occupational therapy
