Job summary

Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation Nursing seeks committed Occupational Therapists to develop, recover or maintain daily living and work skills for elderly residents in Beacon, NY. Roles are available as full-time or part-time positions with a focus on client-centered therapies and functional improvement.

The successful candidate will apply hands-on OT techniques, adapt treatments to patient needs, and collaborate with families and caregivers to maximize independence and quality of life.

Qualifications

• 2 years working experience as occupational therapist, with hands-on patient care.
• Proficiency in ADL/IADL assessment tools and interpretation.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client and family education.
• Valid license to practice occupational therapy in the state.
• Bachelor or higher degree in occupational therapy.
• Professional and collaborative demeanor with a patient-centered approach.

Responsibilities

• Address client’s performance to support engagement in occupations affecting health and well-being.
• Select and adapt OT treatment models per case to guide interventions.
• Apply therapies to maximize safety and independence in ADL/IADL.
• Educate clients on task approaches and breaking down activities.
• Assess home and environments for safety and necessary adaptations.
• Recommend adaptive equipment and train clients in usage.
• Educate family and caregivers to support therapy goals.
• Record progress toward short- and long-term treatment goals and document data.

Fishkill Center for Rehabilitation Nursing, a 160-bed Skilled Nursing Facility in Beacon, NY, is looking for committed and patient-focused Full Time or Part-time Occupational Therapists to develop, recover or maintain the daily living and work skills of elderly with physical, mental or developmental conditions. The successful candidate will offer effective and client-centered services that will enable people to confidently and independently carry out everyday tasks or activities. The successful candidate will have a “hands on” perspective be able to adapt the environment and therapies to fit the needs of the patient.

Responsibilities

• Address client’s aspects of performance to support engagement in occupations that affect health, well-being and life quality
• Select and adapt the appropriate per case occupational therapy treatment model, method and approach to direct the process of interventions
• Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL)
• Teach clients new ways of approaching tasks and educate them on how to break down activities into achievable components
• Assess client’s home and other environments and advice on alterations consistent with their needs and capabilities
• Recommend adaptive equipment and train in its use
• Guide and educate family members and caregivers
• Observe, note, and report on progress of long and short term treatment goals
• Collect data and document processes followed
• Regularly follow-up client

Skills

• 2 Years working experience as occupational therapist
• Hands-on experience with computer programs and creative media
• Familiarity with ADLs evaluation tools ( e.g. Katz ADL scale, Lawton IADL scale)
• Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities
• Current knowledge of treatment practices per discipline and drive to continually learn and grow in the profession
• Professional behavior
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills
• Valid license to practice occupational therapy
• BS degree or greater in occupational therapy
