Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist to join the rehabilitation team. The OT will provide comprehensive, patient-centered care to adult and geriatric inpatients, coordinating with assistants, technicians, and students to maintain high standards of practice.

Responsibilities include initiating interventions, reassessing progress, documenting outcomes, and collaborating with physicians to optimize therapy plans in a busy medical rehabilitation program.

Qualifications

  • Licensed OT in North Carolina with a degree in occupational therapy.
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire as required.
  • Strong critical thinking and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced rehabilitation environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes supervision duties for Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants and staff as needed.
  • Assesses patients and initiates OT interventions with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Observes treatment effects and suggests physician-initiated changes.
  • Performs patient assessments and regular reassessments; handles QI scoring.

Job Overview

As an Occupational Therapist joining our team at Harris Regional Hospital, you will provide comprehensive, patient‑centered care and help improve community health through effective rehabilitation services.

Responsibilities
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for patients being treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians, and occupational therapy students; may orient staff and students and assume supervisory duties in the absence of the qualified individual.
  • Assesses patients’ needs; identifies and initiates appropriate occupational therapy interventions; works cooperatively with other patient team personnel to maintain professional practice standards and interdisciplinary teamwork.
  • Observes and evaluates treatment effects, and accomplishment of short‑ and long‑term goals; recommends changes to the physician when necessary.
  • Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient and performs reassessments per policy; performs accurate and timely QI scoring; serves adult and geriatric patients in the adult medical rehabilitation program and services.
  • Assesses patient pain interfering with optimal function and participation in rehabilitation; makes appropriate interventions to reduce pain and contacts physicians for additional intervention as needed.
  • Provides all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Active NC Occupational Therapist License.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, and capability to act appropriately in a stressful environment.
Physical Requirements

Physically, the OT is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g., wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on their feet for prolonged periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent. Exposure to infectious materials and diseases is limited.
