Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist to join its rehabilitation team in North Carolina. The OT will handle patient care, perform assessments, and coordinate with physicians and staff to optimize rehabilitation outcomes.

The role requires an active NC OT license and BLS certification within 30 days of hire. You’ll contribute to a high‑quality care environment with strong emphasis on patient safety and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment and ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Active NC Occupational Therapist License is required.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire is required.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for patient care as indicated for therapists, assistants, and students.
  • Assess patients, identify interventions, and coordinate with the care team to maintain professional standards.
  • Observe and evaluate treatment progress, adjust plans with physician input as needed.
  • Perform assessments and reassessments, with timely QI scoring for adult and geriatric rehab patients.
  • Ensure safety and minimize medical errors in all patient care activities.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Join our dedicated rehabilitation team at Harris Regional, an 86‑bed facility offering a full range of services including general surgery, women's care, intensive care, and emergency services. Our team is committed to delivering exceptional respiratory care, continuously seeking ways to enhance the patient and family experience. We work closely with all providers and caregivers to ensure the best possible outcomes for every patient we serve.

How you'll contribute
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability as indicated for the care of those patients being treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians and occupational therapy students. May be assigned to orient staff and students and assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual as qualified to do so
  • Assesses patients' needs; identifies and initiates appropriate occupational therapy interventions; works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional occupational therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Observes and evaluates treatment affect, accomplishment of short and long term goals. Recommends change to physician, if needed
  • Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient and performs reassessments, as per policy. Performs accurate and timely QI scoring. The population is adult and geriatric patients requiring an adult medical rehabilitation program and services
  • Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function of participation in rehabilitation; makes appropriate interventions to reduce pain; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
  • Other duties as assigned

What we're looking for

Qualifications:

  • Required Licenses: Active NC Occupational Therapist License
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
  • Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Physical Requirements: Physically, the OT is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g. wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on their feet for long periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent. There is limited exposure to infectious materials and diseases.
