Job summary

Harris Regional Hospital in North Carolina is seeking an Occupational Therapist to join our rehabilitation team within an 86-bed hospital. You will collaborate with providers to deliver adult and geriatric rehab services, conduct assessments, and guide interventions to improve function and safety.

Responsibilities

• Assumes responsibility for care of patients treated by therapists and students.
• Assesses patients' needs and initiates occupational therapy interventions.
• Observes treatment progress and communicates with physicians as needed.
• Performs assessments and reassessments with documentation of outcomes.
• Adapt interventions to reduce pain and improve function.
• Ensure patient safety and reduce care errors.
• Other duties as assigned

How you'll contribute

• Assumes responsibility and accountability as indicated for the care of those patients being treated by Certified Occupational Therapist Assistants, rehabilitation technicians and occupational therapy students. May be assigned to orient staff and students and assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual as qualified to do so
• Assesses patients' needs; identifies and initiates appropriate occupational therapy interventions; works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional occupational therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork
• Observes and evaluates treatment affect, accomplishment of short and long term goals. Recommends change to physician, if needed
• Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient and performs reassessments, as per policy. Performs accurate and timely QI scoring. The population is adult and geriatric patients requiring an adult medical rehabilitation program and services
• Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function of participation in rehabilitation; makes appropriate interventions to reduce pain; makes appropriate physician contact for intervention
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
• Other duties as assigned

What we're looking for

Qualifications:

• Required Licenses: Active NC Occupational Therapist License
• Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
• Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire.
• Required Skills: Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
• Physical Requirements: Physically, the OT is required to assist in moving and lifting patients; to push/pull heavy objects (e.g. wheelchairs or stretchers); to stay on their feet for long periods; to bend and stoop; and to reach above shoulder height. Patients may vary in size from as little as 80 pounds to as large as 400 pounds and may be totally dependent in all aspects of daily living or relatively independent. There is limited exposure to infectious materials and diseases.
