Search Station is seeking an Occupational Therapist I to provide patient-focused occupational therapy across outpatient settings with occasional acute care float coverage in Alpena, Michigan. You will assess function, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team while supervising assistants and aides.

The role requires a Bachelor's in OT, NBCOT, and OTR credential; BLS is preferred. Outpatient experience and willingness to travel occasionally are valued.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing to assess status.
  • Develop goal-specific treatment plans and schedules based on findings.
  • Submit written plans for physician authorization and update as needed.

  • Educate patients and families on prognosis, home programs, and care.
  • Provide supervision for Assistants and Aides per standards.
  • Document patient response and billing per guidelines.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team and participate in staff development.

About the Opportunity

Search Station is recruiting on behalf of a confidential clientseeking an Occupational Therapist I to provide patient‑focused occupational therapy services across outpatient settings with occasional acute care float coverage. This role delivers assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with OT standards, physician orders, and organizational policies. The Occupational Therapist I also delegates responsibilities to Occupational Therapist Assistants and Aides while functioning as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy — required
  • NBCOT Certification — required
  • OTR Credential — required
  • BLS Certification within 1 month of hire or transfer — highly preferred
  • More than 1 year of experience preferred; new graduates welcome — highly preferred
  • Outpatient experience — highly preferred
  • Successful completion of client orientation and new hire competency — required
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with reasonable accommodation — required
  • AOTA membership — preferred
Scope of Work
  • Evaluate patient function using formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, developmental, social, and cognitive status
  • Develop goal‑specific treatment plans based on assessment findings and patient tolerance
  • Submit written treatment plans for physician authorization; update plans of care as patient status changes
  • Co‑sign verbal orders received by occupational therapist assistants as necessary
  • Develop treatment schedules including frequency and duration; coordinate with patients, families, caregivers, and clinical support staff
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers on pathology, prognosis, treatment rationale, and home programs
  • Provide supervision for Occupational Therapist Assistants, Home Health Aides, and students per regulatory standards
  • Recommend adaptive/supportive equipment and assist in securing necessary items for patients
  • Document patient response to treatment and changes in condition per affiliate and regulatory standards
  • Complete daily documentation required for billing in compliance with organizational and regulatory guidelines
  • Provide treatment interventions to facilitate or restore optimal functioning within assigned care areas
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication with internal and external customers, including interdisciplinary team coordination
  • Participate in staff development, student education, and community education related to occupational therapy
  • Promote process improvement and assist with program development
  • Participate in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings
  • Function as case manager for assigned cases
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and affiliate information
  • Demonstrate competency in Microsoft® Windows and participate in additional training as required
