Job summary

• Graduate of an accredited OT or COTA program.
• Current, unencumbered OT or COTA license in Arkansas.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Experience in acute care or inpatient rehab preferred; new graduates considered.

Responsibilities

• Provide skilled OT treatment to acute care and inpatient rehab patients per plan of care.
• Complete evaluations and daily treatment documentation in EMR.
• Address ADL/IADL, upper extremity function, cognition, safety for discharge goals.
• Communicate patient status and progress to interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in discharge planning with home safety recommendations.
• Follow infection control and safety protocols.
• Maintain accurate charge capture and billing documentation.
• Coordinate with weekday therapy staff to ensure continuity of care.

Job Description:

The Weekend OT/COTA provides occupational therapy services to acute care and inpatient rehabilitation patients under a physician's plan of care, supporting patients' return to functional independence in self-care, mobility, and activities of daily living. This position ensures continuity of occupational therapy services through the weekend and collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary team on functional progress and discharge readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide skilled occupational therapy treatment to acute care and inpatient rehab patients per the established plan of care (OT) or under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (COTA).
• Complete evaluations and daily treatment documentation in the EMR on date of service.
• Address ADL/IADL performance, upper extremity function, cognition, and safety awareness relevant to discharge goals.
• Communicate patient status, functional progress, and safety concerns to nursing, case management, and the interdisciplinary team.
• Participate in discharge planning discussions, including adaptive equipment and home safety recommendations.
• Follow infection control, fall prevention, and facility safety protocols at all times.
• Maintain accurate charge capture and billing documentation.
• Communicate effectively with weekday therapy staff to ensure continuity of care across the full week.
• Respond to changes in patient status and escalated concerns to appropriate clinical staff promptly.
• Participate in departmental performance improvement activities as applicable to weekend operations.

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy (OT) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) program.

Experience:

• Current, unencumbered OT or COTA license in the state of Arkansas.
• Acute care or inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred; new graduates considered.
• Current CPR/BLS certification required.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong clinical judgment and ability to work independently with appropriate supervision structure (COTA).
• Effective communication with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff.
• Ability to manage a variable weekend caseload across acute and inpatient rehab settings.
• Proficient with EMR documentation systems.
