Job summary

Career Links is seeking a dedicated school-based Occupational Therapist to support students in achieving independence and success in the educational environment. You will collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to help students participate in school activities and reach educational goals.

The ideal candidate holds a master’s in OT, Wisconsin licensure or eligibility, NBCOT, and prior school-based experience.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current Wisconsin OT license or eligibility; NBCOT credential.
  • Eligibility to work in Wisconsin schools.
  • Experience with IDEA/504 and special education regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students for OT eligibility per district guidelines.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP-based therapy plans.
  • Provide direct and consultative OT services to students with varied needs.
  • Participate in IEP meetings with teachers, families, and staff.
  • Assess fine motor, sensory processing, visual-motor, and functional skills.
  • Recommend adaptive equipment and environmental modifications.
  • Maintain accurate therapy documentation and progress reports.
  • Educate staff and families on strategies to support student success.
  • Monitor progress and adjust intervention plans.
  • Participate in professional development and school meetings.

School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT)

Career Links is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to support students in achieving greater independence and success in the educational environment. In this role, you will collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to help students develop the skills necessary to participate fully in school activities and reach their educational goals.

What You'll Do
  • Evaluate students referred for occupational therapy services and determine eligibility in accordance with federal, state, and district guidelines.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized therapy plans and IEP goals.
  • Provide direct and consultative occupational therapy services to students with a variety of physical, developmental, sensory, and cognitive needs.
  • Participate in IEP team meetings and collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and related service providers.
  • Assess students' fine motor, sensory processing, visual-motor, self-help, and functional skills impacting educational performance.
  • Recommend and implement adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and environmental modifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, therapy notes, progress reports, and compliance records.
  • Educate school staff and families regarding strategies to support student success across educational settings.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust intervention plans as needed.
  • Participate in professional development activities and school-based meetings.
Qualifications
Required Education & Licensure
  • Master's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current Wisconsin Occupational Therapist license issued by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services (DSPS), or eligibility for licensure.
  • National Board Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Eligibility to work in Wisconsin schools and comply with all district and state requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience providing occupational therapy services in a school setting.
  • Experience working with students receiving special education services.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology, sensory integration strategies, and school-based service delivery models.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and special education regulations as they relate to occupational therapy services.
  • Understanding of child development, educationally relevant therapy practices, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Ability to evaluate and address sensory, motor, visual-perceptual, and functional performance needs.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and educational teams.
  • Proficiency with electronic documentation and educational technology systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, transfer, position, and assist students as necessary.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and floor-level activities.
  • Ability to transport therapy materials and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain professional judgment and emotional composure in a dynamic educational environment.
