Job summary

Covenant HealthCare is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to provide receptionist, secretarial, and unit operations support on an assigned patient care unit. You will interact with patients, families, physicians, and staff to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate charting.

Responsibilities include admissions/discharges coordination, EPIC charting, and daily unit operations; you will support 24-hour staffing and maintain high customer service standards consistent with Covenant's values.

Qualifications

• High School diploma required.
• Completion of Medical Terminology course preferred.
• Health Unit Coordinator Course or commensurate experience preferred.
• Graduate of a Medical Office Professional course or completion of Medical Assistant Program preferred.
• Attending unit conferences, required competencies, in-service programs, annual mandatory education, competencies and continuing education activities to meet the organizations expectations.
• One year of experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Remains flexible in cooperation with 24-hour staffing patterns and scheduling needs for provision of care in all inpatient units.

• Demonstrates excellent customer service.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and families.
• Facilitates admissions, discharges, and daily care by the team according to Covenant guidelines.
• EMR Clinical Support; accepts calls and records patient information from placement regarding admissions and transfers.
• Discharges are entered immediately into the EPIC system.
• Supports patient care delivery by monitoring HUC worksheets and performing chart checks every 1-2 hours.
• Maintains daily ADT census flow; prepares charts and admission folders; notifies RN when rounding.
• Updates assignment sheets and validates staffing with schedules and shift coordinators.
• Assists in calling in and/or calling off staff as requested.
• Answers patient call lights promptly and informs appropriate caregiver.
• Promotes a constructive atmosphere within the work area and cooperates with health team members and families.
• Daily reference Health Unit Coordinator Role Responsibility Checklist to ensure duties are completed each shift.
