Job summary

UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, IL is seeking an Obstetrics (OB) Technician to support the Labor and Delivery unit. This full-time, onsite role involves assisting obstetricians, setting up for deliveries, phlebotomy, and newborn hearing tests in accordance with Illinois law.

The OB Tech will work under RN supervision in the LDRP/OR suites, providing sterile instruments and patient care from delivery through postpartum, with emphasis on aseptic technique and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
• Successfully completed phlebotomy program before 6 months of hire date.
• Successfully completed OB Scrub program.
• CNA or Medical Assistant credential or experience.

Responsibilities

• Anticipates needs of obstetricians and surgeons; passes instruments and maintains sterile field.
• Assists with delivery by holding retractors, instruments, and sutures as directed by the surgeon.
• Removes delivery equipment after birth and cleans/ processes per Infection Control guidelines.
• Assists RN with post-delivery patient and newborn care, including breastfeeding support and newborn bath.
