POSITION SUMMARY
The OB Surgical Technologist assists OB/GYN physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives, and RNs in clinical and clerical duties. They perform patient care tasks within the Labor and Delivery setting under nursing supervision, including preparing patients and equipment for obstetrical surgical procedures, assisting during Cesarean Sections and other surgeries, maintaining surgical equipment, and ensuring supply levels in the Labor and Delivery OR.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare the Labor and Delivery OR for cases, handle sterile supplies, instruments, and equipment, and create/maintain a sterile field.
- Perform as surgical scrub during cases.
- Assist with personal care procedures to meet patient needs and comfort.
- Assist nursing staff in deliveries: preparation, positioning, transport, transfers, and discharge of patients.
- Sort, clean, and inspect surgical instruments per standard procedures.
- Prepare instruments for sterilization and wrapping.
- Stock supplies, equipment, and instruments as per standards and requests.
- Record patient data, conduct tests, and assist with procedures like vacuum delivery.
- Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team to ensure continuity of care.
- Perform other duties as directed by RN/Charge RN.

- Greet customers courteously and professionally, maintaining eye contact when appropriate.
- Follow communication protocols, introduce oneself, ask open-ended questions, and use the customer’s name.
- Respond promptly to questions, concerns, or complaints and resolve issues when possible.
