Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in Hinsdale, IL is hiring an OB Tech to support the care team during night shifts. You will assist with delegated patient care tasks under RN and provider supervision, prepare supplies, and keep the work area clean, stocked, and safe for patients and staff.

Responsibilities include timely patient intake, reporting, helping with equipment, and participating in training of other staff while adapting to evolving technology and processes in a fast-paced hospital

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• State CST certification or NBSTSA CST or TS-C is required.
• Experience or ability with aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Assists with delegated patient care tasks under RN/provider supervision.
• Provides supplies and equipment for the provider, nurses, and anesthesia staff.
• Responds to patient call lights and communicates needs to the team.
• Gives accurate handoff reports and may document vital signs and I/O.
• Greets and directs patients, manages intake information and scheduling.
• Keeps work area, equipment, and supplies clean and orderly.

Job Description

• Full-Time 6:45pm-7:15am, 3 nights a week
• Assists with safe and appropriate delegated patient care tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and provider.
• Provides person-centered care with sensitivity and respect, collaborating with team members to achieve daily patient and family goals.
• Provides supplies or equipment upon request for the provider, nurses, and/or anesthesia provider.
• Responds to patient’s call lights promptly and notifies appropriate personnel of patient’s needs.
• Gives accurate report to oncoming shift, may perform documentation including vital signs, input/output, nutritional intake, and other patient care performed.
• Greets, directs, informs, and schedules patients via phone or in person; ensures completion and communication of all patient intake information.
• Ensures that work environment, equipment/supplies are clean, functioning properly, and orderly throughout the workday.
• Responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and stocking supplies and equipment.
• Assists with quality improvement, safety, and regulatory functions as directed, participating in process changes to improve practice.
• Assists in training other OB Techs, volunteers, students, and other hospital personnel.
• Adapts to rapidly changing technology as evidenced by competency in technology and equipment used in the patient care setting.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic skills and related to aseptic/ sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation [Required]

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
• State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR Technician in Surgery TS-C (NCCT)[Required]
