Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is seeking an OB Tech to support patient care in a full-time day-shift role. You will assist with delegated tasks, provide patient-centered care, stock supplies, and help with reporting and documentation as part of a collaborative team.

Qualified candidates hold BLS certification and CST credential (or NBSTSA TS-C). The position emphasizes safety, aseptic technique, and adaptability in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Qualifications

• BLS CPR certification required.
• State CST or NBSTSA CST or TS-C certification required.
• Basic skills related to aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Full-Time days (6:45am-9:15pm) 3 shifts/week.
• Assists with safe and delegated patient care tasks under RN and provider supervision.
• Provides person-centered care with sensitivity and respect, collaborating with team.
• Provides supplies or equipment upon request for providers, nurses, and anesthesia.
• Responds to patient call lights promptly and notifies appropriate personnel.
• Gives accurate report to oncoming shift and may document vital signs and inputs/outputs.

Job Description:

• Full-Time days (6:45am-9:15pm) 3 shifts/week
• Assists with safe and appropriate delegated patient care tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and provider.
• Provides person-centered care with sensitivity and respect, collaborating with team members to achieve daily patient and family goals.
• Provides supplies or equipment upon request for the provider, nurses, and/or anesthesia provider.
• Responds to patient’s call lights promptly and notifies appropriate personnel of patient’s needs.
• Gives accurate report to oncoming shift, may perform documentation including vital signs, input/output, nutritional intake, and other patient care performed.
• Greets, directs, informs, and schedules patients via phone or in person; ensures completion and communication of all patient intake information.
• Ensures that work environment, equipment/supplies are clean, functioning properly, and orderly throughout the workday.
• Responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and stocking supplies and equipment.
• Assists with quality improvement, safety, and regulatory functions as directed, participating in process changes to improve practice.
• Assists in training other OB Techs, volunteers, students, and other hospital personnel.
• Adapts to rapidly changing technology as evidenced by competency in technology and equipment used in the patient care setting.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Basic skills and related to aseptic/ sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation [Required]

Licenses and Certifications:

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]
• State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR Technician in Surgery TS-C (NCCT) [Required]
