Job summary

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth is seeking an OB Tech for a full-time night shift. You will assist with delegated patient care tasks under RN and physician supervision, ensuring timely, safe, and respectful care for patients.

You will stock supplies, respond to calls, document patient data, and help with ward operations and training of staff. Ideal candidates have BLS CPR and CST or equivalent certification, with the ability to adapt to changing technology and participate in quality and safety

Qualifications

• BLS CPR certification required.
• CST or NCCT TS-C certification required (or NBSTSA CST).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with delegated patient care tasks under RN and provider supervision.
• Provide patient-centered care with sensitivity and respect.
• Stock supplies and equipment for providers and anesthesia staff.
• Respond to call lights and communicate patient needs to team.
• Document vital signs and nursing notes as assigned.
• Greet and schedule patients, ensure accurate intake information.
• Maintain clean, organized, and functional work environment.
• Support quality improvement, safety, and regulatory activities.
• Assist in training OB Techs, volunteers, and students.
• Adapt to evolving technology and equipment in patient care.

Job Description

• Full-Time 6:45pm-7:15am, 3 nights a week

• Assists with safe and appropriate delegated patient care tasks under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and provider.
• Provides person-centered care with sensitivity and respect, collaborating with team members to achieve daily patient and family goals.
• Provides supplies or equipment upon request for the provider, nurses, and/or anesthesia provider.
• Responds to patient’s call lights promptly and notifies appropriate personnel of patient’s needs.
• Gives accurate report to oncoming shift, may perform documentation including vital signs, input/output, nutritional intake, and other patient care performed.
• Greets, directs, informs, and schedules patients via phone or in person; ensures completion and communication of all patient intake information.
• Ensures that work environment, equipment/supplies are clean, functioning properly, and orderly throughout the workday.
• Responsible for acquiring, maintaining, and stocking supplies and equipment.
• Assists with quality improvement, safety, and regulatory functions as directed, participating in process changes to improve practice.
• Assists in training other OB Techs, volunteers, students, and other hospital personnel.
• Adapts to rapidly changing technology as evidenced by competency in technology and equipment used in the patient care setting.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic skills and related to aseptic/ sterile technique and knowledge of surgical instrumentation [Required]

Licenses and Certifications

• Basic Life Support - CPR Cert (BLS) [Required]

• State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] OR NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) [Required] ORTechnician in Surgery TS-C (NCCT)[Required]
