Job summary

CHI St. Alexius Health Williston is seeking an OB Nurse to guide patients through labor and childbirth with a focus on mother and baby safety, kindness, and compassion.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) or higher.
• Licensed RN by North Dakota State Board of Nursing.
• Current BLS certification.
• ACLS certification with a 6-month grace period.
• NRP certification with a 12-month grace period.

Responsibilities

• Triage antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients and monitor for risk factors.
• Respond to life-threatening situations per nursing standards, policies, and protocols.
• Set priorities in the plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipate required resources.
• Collaborate with the provider to deliver exceptional obstetric care.
• Administer medications, IV therapy, and treatments per policies.
• Provide patient and family education.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our OB Nurse at CHI St. AlexiusHealthWilliston, now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health, you’ll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.

As a nurse in this department, you will have varying roles and responsibilities. Working in Obstetrics - triaging patients or perform screening exams on walk-ins or you may guide patients through a routine induction and delivery. You’re busy monitoring the mother’s dilation progress while also keeping close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate. You'll be coaching mom as the baby is delivered and providing updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else, you must remain calm in an emergency. A patient’s status can change quickly and it’s never good for the patient or family to see the nurse in a panic. You’re calm. You’re in control. You’re handling the situation.

• Assesses antepartal, intraprtal, and postpartal patients for risk factors, normal progress, symptoms of problems, and continuously monitor; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
• Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
• Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs
• Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care
• Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures
• Provides patient and family education

We are offering a $35,000 employment incentive until December 1, 2026 to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

• Associate’s Degree in Nursing
• Licensed by the State of North Dakota Board of Nursing (RN)
• Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • 6 – Month Grace Period
• Certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • 12 – Month Grace Period
