Job summary

CommonSpirit Health in Williston is seeking an OB nurse to guide patients through labor and delivery with a focus on safety for mother and baby. You will triage, monitor dilation, fetal heart rate, and support the family during induction, delivery, and postpartum care.

You’ll work closely with providers, administer medications and IV therapy, and educate patients and families while staying calm in emergencies. A sign-on incentive is available for eligible hires.

Qualifications

  • RN licensure in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing.
  • BLS/ACLS/NRP certifications required.
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing or higher.
  • Ability to triage and monitor labor/delivery patients.
  • Strong communication with families during labor and emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Guide patients through labor and childbirth with focus on mother and baby safety.
  • Triage patients, perform screen exams, and assist with inductions and deliveries.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our OB Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston you will guide patients through the labor and childbirth process, focusing on the safety of the mother and baby, with kindness and compassion.

As a nurse in this department, you will have varying roles and responsibilities. Working in Obstetrics, triaging patients or perform screening exams on walk-ins or you may guide patients through a routine induction and delivery. You’re busy monitoring the mother’s dilation progress while also keeping close watch on the baby’s fetal heart rate. You'll be coaching mom as the baby is delivered and providing updates and support to the patient’s partner and loved ones.

To thrive in this role, you’ll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else, you must remain calm in an emergency. A patient’s status can change quickly and it’s never good for the patient or family to see the nurse in a panic. You’re calm. You’re in control. You’re handling the situation.

  • Assesses antepartal, intraprtal, and postpartal patients for risk factors, normal progress, symptoms of problems, and continuously monitor; detect changes in symptoms, health or pain, and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
  • Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel, supplies, and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs
  • Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care
  • Administers medications, IV therapy, and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Provides patient and family education

We are offering a $35,000 employment incentive until December 1, 2026 to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.

Job Requirements
  • Associate’s Degree in Nursing
  • Licensed by the State of North Dakota Board of Nursing (RN)
  • Certification for Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • 6 – Month Grace Period
  • Certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • 12 – Month Grace Period
