This position will support facilities projects and engineering team in either the plant engineering, project engineering, or crane engineering team. Skills that will developed as part of this position are: knowledge of applicable regulations, codes and standards; the ability to design, evaluate, maintain and troubleshoot industrial equipment and systems; and skills that support execution of projects and work control such as planning and implementation. These tasks may support engineering in facility infrastructure—piers, dry docks, roadways, buildings, equipment foundations and paint systems, and rails. The candidate shall have basic structural knowledge and be capable of solving problems in an organized manner. Basic MS Office suit and AutoCAD skills are needed (Word and Excel) as well as the ability to communicate clearly with supervisors, peers and customers.

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
