Job summary

Maternal and Family Health Services seeks a Nutritionist for its Bethlehem WIC location. You will determine WIC eligibility, prescribe food packages, and deliver nutrition education to applicants and participants in alignment with policy.

You will also provide breastfeeding promotion, document care plans, and coordinate referrals while supporting organizational goals and community outreach efforts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field with nutrition education credits.
• 1-3 years’ experience preferred.
• Ability to perform measurements and assessments.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and document nutrition education including breastfeeding promotion and support, creating nutrition care plans and tailoring standard food packages.
• Provide and document referrals to participants with follow-up where needed.
• Verify identification and residency; confirm income eligibility; inquire about voter registration status.
• Conduct thorough participant assessments and document WIC risk codes.
• Explain program purpose and overview of what to expect; instruct on E-WIC use and schedule appointments.
• Record hematological and anthropometric measurements.
• Promote MFHS goals and participate in education/outreach activities.
• Communicate appointment information with participants using Text Magic.
• Attend training sessions and updates as directed.
• Perform other duties to support service provision.

Working to meet the health and nutritional needs of women, children and families with information, education, and quality care, MFHS is currently seeking a full time Nutritionist for our Bethlehem WIC location.

Job Summary

Responsible for the determination of WIC program eligibility, the prescription of the WIC food package and the delivery and documentation of nutrition education for applicants and participants, according to policy.

Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities

• Deliver and document nutrition education including providing breastfeeding promotion and support, preparing nutrition care plans, providing and documenting nutrition and breastfeeding contacts for participants, and prescribing and tailoring standard food packages for participant’s medical/nutritional needs and preferences. Ensure all pieces of the nutrition interview are completed.
• Provide and document appropriate and required referrals to participants including appropriate follow‑up referrals.
• Verify, or confirm verification of, identification and residency of all applicants/participants; verify income eligibility; ask about voter registration status.
• Conduct and document a thorough participant assessment and document identification of WIC risk code(s).
• Explain the purpose of the program and provide an overview of what to expect during the appointment ("WIC Rules" and "Participant’s Rights and Responsibilities"); provide food instruments and explain the food list and procedure for use of E-WIC card; and schedule WIC appointments as per guidelines.
• Perform, record, and assess hematological and anthropometric measurements.
• Promote and contribute to organizational and programmatic goals of MFHS.
• Monitor and promote nutrition education, breastfeeding and outreach activities for participants in accordance with the current Nutrition Education, Breastfeeding and Outreach annual plans.
• Use Text Magic to communicate appointment information with participants.
• Attend regular training sessions and updates as directed.
• Perform other duties necessary to support the provision of services.

Qualifications/Requirements/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related degree with nutrition education credits
• 1-3 years’ experience preferred
• Ability to perform operations with units involved in measuring and weighing.
• Deductive reasoning - ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense
• Must have the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to function independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of customer service and client-centered service delivery.
• General understanding of medical office processes and social service delivery.
