West Virginia is seeking a Public Health Nutritionist to promote and present public health nutrition programs and provide nutrition education and counseling, primarily in prenatal and pediatric clinics within the WIC program.

The role involves assisting in eligibility determination, risk assessment, and recommending tailored WIC food packages, along with delivering nutrition classes and coordinating referrals to health and social services across nine counties.

Formación

• Bachelor's degree in nutrition and foods, dietetics, or public health nutrition.
• Coursework in nutrition if the degree is in a related field.
• Valid driver's license may be required.

Responsabilidades

• Promote and present public health nutrition programs.
• Provide nutritional assessment, education and counseling to individuals and groups, especially prenatal and pediatric clinics (WIC).
• Serve as a resource on nutrition and dietetics to nurses, health educators and other providers.
• Evaluate and certify eligibility for the WIC program.
• Assess and document nutritional risk status of participants.
• Counsel participants on diet and food selections.
• Recommend a WIC food package tailored to needs.
• Prepare and present nutrition classes to WIC participants and groups.
• Refer participants to health and social services as needed.
• Distribute nutrition promotional materials.
• Attend trainings and meetings related to current nutrition practices.
• Travel to nine Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department counties for public engagement.
• Perform related duties as needed.

Under general supervision, performs professional work by promoting and presenting public health nutrition programs.

• Provide nutritional assessment, education and counseling to individuals and groups, primarily prenatal and pediatric clinics, with emphasis on participants in the Special Supplemental Food Program for WIC
• Serve as a resource on nutrition and dietetics to nurses, health educators and other health care providers in local health departments, local public and private health care facilities and the community. Work is governed by Federal regulations and State policies and procedures.
• Evaluate and certify the eligibility of applicants for participation in the WIC program.
• Assess and document nutritional risk status of participants.
• Counsel participants concerning diet and food selections.
• Recommend a WIC food package tailored to the participant’s needs.
• Prepare and present nutrition classes to WIC participants as well as other interested groups.
• Refer WIC participants to appropriate health and social agencies for additional assistance.
• Distribute current nutrition promotional/educational materials.
• Attend in-service training, meetings, seminars and workshops pertaining to current practices in the field of nutrition.
• Public contact and travel to all nine Mid-Ohio Valley Health Department counties are required.
• Other related duties as needed.

Training

Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university in nutrition and foods, dietetics, or public health nutrition; or a Bachelor's degree in a related field with 12 semester hours of coursework in nutrition.

Special Requirement

A valid driver's license may be required.
